MURRAY HILL
MBD collaborated closely with the clients’ architects to seamlessly combine three apartments in Murray Hill, creating a cohesive and highly functional home for a family of five.
Each of the couple’s three sons’ bedrooms features custom millwork designed by MBD, incorporating built-in desks and generous storage solutions tailored to support both study and play. Thoughtful planning ensured that every room feels personalized while maintaining a unified design language throughout the home.
The kitchen footprint was expanded to create an expansive cooking area centered around a large custom island, designed to accommodate both serious meal preparation and everyday family gathering.
In the living room, MBD introduced a playful and unexpected element: a hidden door concealed within the custom millwork that leads to a fifth full bathroom. This secret feature reflects the balance of sophistication and personality woven throughout the residence.
One of the project’s most ambitious design challenges was the integration of a large tropical aquarium. The installation required steel floor supports as well as carefully coordinated electrical and ventilation solutions. Rather than treating it as an afterthought, MBD embraced the aquarium as a defining architectural feature—positioning it as a dramatic focal point that subtly divides the living room from a new custom banquette and dining area.
The result is a thoughtfully engineered and beautifully detailed home that blends creativity, technical precision, and family-focused design.
