HELL’S KITCHEN
A full renovation transformed this duplex penthouse in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen into a highly functional and design-forward family home.
The kitchen was completely reimagined, opening the original closed, tight U-shaped layout into a spacious and efficient design. Rich walnut cabinetry anchors the space, complemented by a striking marble waterfall island. MBD incorporated a dedicated coffee station with a built-in espresso machine, along with a generous pull-out pantry to maximize storage without sacrificing aesthetics.
Custom millwork extends seamlessly into the great room, where additional storage was created beneath the television and a hidden AV cabinet was discreetly integrated near the window. While a structural column prevented the space from being fully opened, it instead inspired a design moment: MBD introduced a bar area featuring floating glass shelves and a marble surround, elegantly defining the transition between the living and dining areas.
A custom-designed sofa was created to precisely fit the room’s proportions and echo the unique angles of the building’s architecture, ensuring both comfort and cohesion.
In the powder room, a hidden laundry area is cleverly concealed behind gold wallpaper, blending utility with glamour. The marble floor tile was meticulously laid out to form a distinctive pattern that continues up the back wall, creating a striking visual statement.
Midway through the renovation, the clients joyfully discovered they were expecting their second child—presenting the opportunity to design a nursery. Michele’s favorite space in the home, the room is crowned with playful orange giraffe wallpaper applied to the ceiling, adding warmth, whimsy, and an unforgettable finishing touch.
