SHORT HILLS

MBD was delighted to design this striking modern residence located in a neighborhood known for its traditional Tudor architecture. Completed in phases, one floor at a time—with a pause during COVID-19—the renovation reflects both thoughtful planning and personal meaning.

The basement was conceived as a complete home retreat, featuring two large-screen TVs, a golf simulator, a gym with sauna, a guest bedroom and bath, a kitchenette, and two bars. MBD designed the custom millwork, including the built-in banquette and bar areas, creating a cohesive and highly functional entertainment level.

On the main floor, the dining room is anchored by a custom light fixture by renowned artist Niamh Barry. Inspired by the surrounding landscape, MBD introduced custom-designed green benches along the window wall overlooking the backyard, drawing nature into the interior.

In the primary suite, a velvet-upholstered wall softens the transition between the bedroom and the expansive walk-in closet. The twins’ bedrooms were designed as mirrored spaces, each featuring coordinated carpeting and blue and pink wallpapers. The renovation also included a guest suite for the client’s mother, completed just in time for the pandemic.
